While many conversations about the “Internet of Things” start with the enormous impact that IoT can have, that impact can be negative as well as positive.

It’s far too easy to find stories about users whose smart home devices have turned into worthless bricks because the company that sold them went out of business or shut down their “cloud” operations. Likewise stories about massive security issues exposing user information or data. And IoT reusability is laughable. Try using one vendor’s temperature sensors with another’s thermostats.
